Interview Series: Chapter 6 — Clean Energy Advantage: Evelution Energy’s Solar Power Strategy
How EVelution Energy is Using Solar Power to Outperform Global Competitors
In Chapter 6 of our exclusive interview series, Michael Gibson of USAdvisors.org dives into EVelution Energy’s forward-thinking approach to sustainability with Gil Michel-Garcia and Navaid Alam. EVelution is building its cobalt processing plant in Yuma County, Arizona — the sunniest county in the U.S. — where solar power not only lowers environmental impact but also gives the company a major cost advantage over overseas producers, including China.
Gil explains how China relies on coal and hydroelectric power, resulting in low-cost but environmentally damaging energy. In contrast, EVelution’s solar-powered operations benefit from federal tax credits under the Inflation Reduction Act, bringing energy costs down to just 3.25 cents per kilowatt hour — even cheaper than China’s rates.
This clean energy initiative reflects EVelution’s broader mission: creating a reliable, domestic source of cobalt while promoting green technology and economic growth in the U.S.
Stay tuned as we continue sharing each chapter in this compelling series.

Now, Gil Navaid mentioned that you're gonna be doing this in a greener way. That a lot of the other factories around the world, principally in China, are using fossil fuels to, to manufacture this, to, to do run the process. You're actually going in a different direction. Could you talk about that?
Gil Michel-Garcia, speaking
Sure. I mean, one of those important elements of being in Yuma County, Arizona, which is the sunniest county in United States.
Michael Gibson, speaking
Who knew that! Hey, there's a trivia question if you ever get it.
Gil Michel-Garcia, speaking
Is the fact that, obviously, it is the most profitable place to put a solar plant. Because there's the most sun on an average during the year. And just so you get an idea in terms of costs. So China has, right now, because of its low coal or high usage of coal power generation facilities and hydropower has very cheap electricity for its producers. Around 4 cents a kilo one hour. We, in turn, in Yuma County are producing electricity at around six and a half cents a kilo one hour with our, our facilities. But thanks to one of the initiatives of the IRA, which is the renewable energy tax credit, we're able to get a subsidy to be able to decrease that cost. We’re at three dollars and twenty five cents (Correction 3.25 cents) a hour. So our power is actually gonna be even better priced
